Joyce Poon

Biography

Joyce Poon obtained the Ph.D. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 2007 and 2003 respectively, and the B.A.Sc. in Engineering Science (physics option) from the University of Toronto in 2002.  She is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Toronto, where she currently holds the Canada Research Chair in Integrated Photonic Devices.  Prof. Poon has also been appointed Director at the Max Planck Institute for Microstructure Physics and Honorarprofessor at the Technical University of Berlin.

Research Interests

Prof. Poon and her team specialize in integrated photonics devices and circuits for communications and neurotechnology.  Their main interest is multi-level and multi-material integrated photonics on silicon and integrated microsystems for computing of the future. Prof. Poon is a principal investigator of the Neurotech Alliance, which seeks to advance and deploy nanotechnology-enabled neurotech systems.
